Man from Webster County Convicted on Child Sex Crimes

A man from Webster County is awaiting sentencing after he was found guilty of multiple counts of rape involving a child.

Investigators say 31-year-old Alan Gilliam was convicted by a jury on five counts of statutory rape this week.

He was accused of having multiple sexual “encounters” with a young girl for several years, from the time she was 12 until she was 17.

The investigation began after the victim became an adult and began remembering events while attending therapy. She then went to the Webster County Sheriff’s Office to tell her story.

Gilliam is the latest defendant to be tried and convicted in a group of eight being charged with child sex crimes.

He is being remanded to the Webster County Jail and will be officially sentenced June 10, 2024.

Missouri State Basketball May Have Found Their Next Head Coach

ESPN is reporting that a familiar face is returning to Great Southern Bank Arena. Cuonzo Martin is finalizing a deal with the Bears to change the term “former” head coach to “current”.

After coaching MSU from 2008-2011 and finishing with a total record of 61-41, Martin gained experience at Tennessee, California, and most recently Mizzou from 2017-2022, and lead the Tigers to two NCAA Tournament bids in that time.

U.S. Department Of Justice Suing Springfield Landlord

The United States Department of Justice is claiming sexual assault and Fair Housing Act violations against Springfield Landlord Jimmie Bell in a recent lawsuit.

The suit accuses Bell of offering reduced rent and repairs to tenants in exchange for sexual favors, making unwanted sexual advances towards tenants, sexually touching tenants without consent, and evicting tenants who refused his advances.

Two Springfield Nightclubs Close Suddenly

The Springfield Nightclubs “Zan” and “Boogie Cafe” have been closed permanently, according to one of the owners Mike Jalili, citing “safety concerns”.

Jalili says employees at the clubs are being offered jobs at other restaurants owned by Jalili. Zan has been the scene of several fights and other criminal activities for several years.

Metro Nashville Police: Death of Riley Strain Appears “Accidental”

Authorities with the Metro Nashville Police Department say the death of Springfield native and Mizzou student Riley Strain appears “accidental”.

Officers say a complete preliminary autopsy of the 22-year-olds body shows no signs of foul play.

Strain was in Nashville on a trip with member of his fraternity when he was kicked out of a bar downtown.

From there he began walking, and encountered an MNPD officer who was investigating a car burglary.

Video footage shows Strain and the officer exchanging pleasantries before he then begins walking again.

A large search began with volunteers searching around the area for signs of the Kickapoo High School graduate.

Strain’s bank card was found by a volunteer group of TikTok content creators who were aiding in the search on March 17.

Five days later, on March 22, Strain’s body was located in the Cumberland River in West Nashville.

Investigators are still working to gather more information and evidence in the case, but continue to say the death looks to be accidental.

Man from Springfield Convicted of Murder Back in Greene County for Death Penalty Hearing

A man from Springfield who was convicted for the rape and killing of a teenage girl over a decade ago is now back in Greene County, attempting to have his death penalty sentence overturned.

Craig Wood was booked into the Greene County Jail on Friday, March 22, after spending several years at the Potosi Correctional Center.

Investigators say he kidnapped, raped, and murdered 10-year-old Hailey Owens on February 18, 2014.

He was sentenced to death by Greene County Judge Thomas Mountjoy in 2018 after the jury was unable to come to a unanimous decision about whether to give him the death penalty, or a life sentence.

Wood attempted to appeal the death penalty sentence, but it was upheld by The Supreme Court of Missouri in July of 2019.

He is now back in Greene County for a three-day evidentiary hearing at the Greene County Circuit Court in yet another attempted to have the sentence overturned and the death penalty thrown out.

The hearing begins today and will conclude on Wednesday, March 27.

The Bodies of 3 Missing Kayakers Recovered From Stockton Lake

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says all three of the bodies of the kayakers who went missing Tuesday at Stockton Lake have been recovered.

The bodies of two brothers, Izaiah and Sonny Lewis, were recovered Friday.

The body of another kayaker,18-year-old Melodie Roberts of South Lyon, Michigan, was found Wednesday at Crabtree Cove.

It is believed rough waters and hypothermia contributed to the drownings.

Woman Dies In Branson Traffic Crash

Branson Police are investigating a car crash that shut down traffic.

The two-vehicle crash happened around 11 AM Friday morning between Highway 248 and Bee Creek Road.

Officers found a 20-year-old woman dead in on vehicle.

The other driver was not injured.

Traffic had to be diverted while the crash was being investigated.

Branson Police have so far ruled out intoxication or reckless driving.

Body of Springfield Native, Mizzou Student Riley Strain Found in Nashville

The Metro Nashville Police is officially reporting the death of Mizzou student and former Kickapoo graduate Riley Strain.

Officers say they received a call Friday morning in the Nations neighborhood in west Nashville for a report of a body in the Cumberland River.

When authorities arrived, they investigating the scene and the body and confirmed it was the 22-year-old Strain.

He had gone missing March 8 after being kicked out of a Nashville bar while on a trip with members of his fraternity at the University of Missouri.

Reports continued to pour in over the coming days of him interacting with a police officer and his bank card being found along the river’s edge.

Investigators say that there are no signs of foul-play, or any “foul-play related trauma” based on the condition of Strain’s body.

The family has since been notified, and in a statement Friday, Nashville Police Chief John Drake expressed his condolences to the family, and his gratitude for law enforcement in the search.

“I want to say to the family my heart and prayers go out to you all for this very unfortunate and tragic incident,” Drake said. “I also want to say thank you to the Nashville community (for) the outpouring of support from the community in trying to help us locate Mr. Strain.”

Cold Case Closed In McDonald County

Modern Technology has lead to the closing of a cold case from the early 90’s in McDonald County.

Shawna Garber’s remains were found at an abandoned farmhouse near Lanagan in December of 1990. Investigators say she had been sexually assaulted before being murdered. Thursday, the McDonald County Sheriff’s Office announced that DNA evidence pointed to Talfey Reeves being the guilty party.

Reeves was long suspected in the case and was well known to law enforcement, but died in a car crash in 2021
