Police Investigating Drive-By-Shooting In Springfield

Springfield Police are investigating a shooting early Sunday morning.

Police say a driver was shot in the arm while driving on Kansas Expressway around 3 AM Sunday.

The driver called 9-1-1 from a Kum and Go on West Smith Street.

He was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police have not made an arrest at this time.

National Weather Service Issues Winter Weather Advisory and Winter Storm Warning for Accumulating Snow Monday

A band of heavy snow is expected to develop over the Ozarks late Sunday night into Monday, with the National Weather Service issuing a Winter Storm Warning for areas south and west of Springfield and a Winter Weather Advisory for the rest of the Ozarks.

Rain will turn to snow overnight.

Forecasters say the exact location of the heaviest band is still uncertain and may shift north or south depending on the exact track of the low.

The Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 2am-6pm Monday for Christian, Barry, Lawrence, Newton, McDonald, Stone and Taney Counties.

Heavy snow is expected in the warning area, with accumulations between 4 and 6 inches possible.

If the heavy snow band can stay over the same location for several hours, then localized higher amounts will be possible.

The rest of southwest Missouri is under a Winter Weather Advisory from 2am-6pm Monday.

Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are possible in the advisory area.

The snow will end Monday night.

The snow is expected to affect both the morning and afternoon commute Monday.

Snow Returns On Monday

Snow is expected to return for the start of the work week.

The National Weather Service in Springfield says that it will start raining Sunday night and will gradually turn to snow after the temperatures drop to near freezing after midnight.

The Weather Service says the snowfall will range from moderate to heavy.

Roads will probably be hazardous on Monday morning.

However, the Weather Service says that we may have temperatures in the 60s on Valentines Day.

Homes Evacuated After Gas Leak In Springfield

Residents in a Springfield neighborhood were evacuated due to a gas leak.

Springfield Police say a car crashed into a gas main at East Cherokee and South Kentwood Avenue which caused the leak.

Springfield Fire Department helped evacuated the homes in the neighborhood.

C-U has shut off the gas until it’s repaired.

The driver was not injured in the crash.

Man from Springfield Sentenced for Allegedly Carjacking Woman at Gunpoint

A man from Springfield will spend over two decades in prison for allegedly stealing a woman’s car and threatening her with a gun.

Donny Finnegan was sentenced Thursday to 22 years in prison on charges of:

  • Vehicle Hijacking
  • First-degree tampering with a motor vehicle
  • First-degree robbery

Investigators say Finnegan approached the 73-year-old victim in the parking lot of the Walgreens on East Republic in May of 2022.

The woman told authorities that he approached her and they had a brief conversation, then he pulled out a gun.

She told police that Finnegan said, “because I like dogs, I’m going to let you live.” He then stole her car and fled the scene.

KWTO is unsure if Finnegan will be eligible for parole during his time in prison.

New Resources for Autism in Springfield

The Arc of the Ozarks has officially opened a new Autism and Neurodevelopmental Center.

Executive Vice President of the Arc of the Ozarks, Tim Dygon, says the community will benefit significantly from the resources at the new center.

The new center will house a team of occupational, physical, and speech therapists, and psychologists.

Dygon says the project cost about 10 million dollars, with 5 million coming from the Missouri General Assembly.

Fatal Crash Near Joplin

A man from Neosho has died in a crash near Joplin.

Highway Patrol Troopers say Jay Gardner’s motorcycle ran off Highway 86 a mile south of Joplin and hit a road sign and a utility pole.

Gardner was pronounced dead at the scene.

Strong to Severe Thunderstorms Possible Friday night in southeastern Ozarks, With Snow Potential Sunday into Monday

After another warm day with temperatures up around 70 on Friday, changes are on the way with the weather in the Ozarks .

The National Weather Service says some scattered thunderstorms will be possible over south central Missouri Friday night, with hail to the size of quarters being the main risk with the storms that develop.

After highs topping out in the low 50’s on Saturday and rain moving into southwest Missouri Sunday, we’ll have the potential for snow Sunday night into Monday.

The weather service says there are still several unknowns, including specific timing, the exact track of the system and potential snowfall amounts.

Firefighter Hurt Battling Forsyth Church Fire

A firefighter is hospitalized after being injured while battling a fire at a church in Forsyth.

Forsyth firefighters were called to the 3:16 Church at the corner of U-S 160 and Coy Boulevard Thursday afternoon.

The church received extensive damage and the roof collapsed.

The firefighter was taken to a Springfield hospital.

Nobody was at the church at the time.

The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.

Manhunt In Camden County

The Missouri State Highway Patrol and Camden County Deputies are searching for an armed-and-dangerous man.

Camden County Deputies say they are searching for 40-year-old Nathan Hammond around North Highway 7 and State Road D-D near Climax Springs.

He is believed to be wearing a black hoodie and carrying a backpack.

He is believed to be armed with a long gun and a handgun.
