Convoy of Hope Gets Huge Water Donation

Beverage company Diageo North America is donating 10 million, 12 ounce cans of water to Springfield based Convoy of Hope to help local communities across the US experiencing natural and humanitarian disasters.

The water will go to key facilities for deployment to communities and relief organizations during times of need.

Buffalo Gaines New Police Chief

There is a new police chief in Buffalo.

Chad Garner was most recently Chief Deputy at the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office.

He was a school recourse officer for 6 years before that.

Garner will oversee a department of 7 officers.

He says his first priority is to work on building relationships in the community.

Three Arrested In Nguyen Shooting

The Springfield Homicide Unit has now arrested three men in connection with a fatal shooting in downtown Springfield earlier this week.

The Greene County Prosecutor has charged 19-year-old Elysha Bedell of Springfield with first degree murder, first degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.

He is being held in the Greene County Jail without bond.

Two juveniles were also arrested and booked into the juvenile detention center.

Chaviz Nguyen and a woman were shot near the intersection of College and Grant.

Nguyen died at the scene.

The woman is hospitalized.

Crash On US 65 Near Battlefield

A crash at Battlefield and Highway 65 has stopped traffic.

A vehicle was southbound on U-S 65 when it ran off the road, went up and embankment and rolled over.

Emergency crews worked to extricate the driver.

The driver was unresponsive and transported to a local hospital.

Mayor’s Christmas Tree Vandalized, Springfield Police Searching for Suspect

Police in Springfield are investigating after the Mayor’s Christmas Tree was vandalized.

Investigators say the vandalism occurred Thursday morning, when the suspect began taking lights off the tree and breaking them.

Man from Springfield Arrested, Accused of Kidnapping Woman Using a Chainsaw

A man from Springfield is facing multiple charges after investigators say he kidnapped a woman by threatening her with a chainsaw.

Springfield Police say Roy Flores went to a home along North Rogers in April of this year, using the chainsaw to force his way into the house, but the female victim wasn’t there.

She arrived home about an hour later, at which point Flores returned and threatened the woman in order to abduct her.

He is charged with first-degree burglary, kidnapping and unlawful use of weapon.

Suspect in Custody for Two Springfield Stabbings

One person is in custody after two stabbings in Springfield early Thursday morning.

The first victim showedd up at police headquarters at 2:30 am with cuts to his mouth. An hour later, a second victim was stabbed in his back and cut on his face in the 800 block of West Commercial Street.

Police found the suspect at a convenience store at Kansas Expressway and Division and arrested him.

One Arrest Made in Fatal Downtown Springfield Shooting

One arrest has been made in connection to a shooting that occurred in downtown Springfield Tuesday night.

Chaviz Nguyen, 26, of Springfield, was shot and killed near the intersection of Campbell and College street. A female victim was also injured, but was taken to a local hospital for treatment of her non life threatening injuries. Nguyen died at the scene.

The name of the individual arrested has not been released.

UPDATE: Name of Shooting Victim Released

Springfield Police have released the name of the victim of a shooting near Park Central Square Tuesday night.

Police say 26-year-old Chavis Nguyen of Springfield died at the scene from his injuries.

A woman in the vehicle with Nguyen was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The suspect fled the scene in the vehicle used in the shooting and has not been located.

Student Brought Gun To Clever School

A Clever Middle School student is in juvenile custody for bringing a gun to school Wednesday.

Administrators were told that a student had placed a gun in a locker.

The school was put on soft lockdown.

Administrators say the student will be punished for the act.
