Man from Springfield Sentenced for Fatal Crash while Drunk Driving

A man from Springfield will spend the next decade in prison for allegedly driving drunk and causing a crash that killed another man.

Prosecutors say Jarol Leiva-Navarro was sentenced to 10 years in prison last Friday, November 17, for the crash that occurred in 2021.

Leiva-Navarro was driving on Glenstone, racing another vehicle and driving recklessly, when he hit another car driven by 32-year-old Colby Compton.

Compton was attempting to turn left onto Portland when he was hit, causing the car to flip. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators found evidence that moments before the crash, Leiva-Navarro was driving as fast as 110 miles per hour. Blood samples taken at the hospital also showed he had a blood-alcohol level of .110.

He also admitted to having drank alcohol earlier in the day, as well as smoking marijuana.

Leiva-Navarro pleaded guilty to DWI resulting in death, as well as two misdemeanor charges, in July of this year.
