Springfield-Branson National Airport Seeks Public Input on New Projects

Officials with the Springfield-Branson National Airport are considering several changes to the facility, and are asking for your thoughts and ideas.

An event is being held Tuesday at the Springfield Art Museum from 4-7pm, where residents can see the new plan for the airport and provide feedback.

Some of the proposed projects include improved parking, signage, and more pick-up and drop-off space for customers.

Missouri State Conference Poll

The Missouri State Men’s basketball team is picked sixth in the Missouri Valley Conference pre-season poll.

Dana Ford’s bears got one first place vote, with the pre-season favorite Drake Bulldogs getting 24 first place votes.

MSU’s Donovan Clay is a first team all conference pre-season selection, with Chance Moore on the third team.

Socialist Group Protests in Springfield

Dozens of people gathered on the square in downtown Springfield Monday to protest the war between Israel and Hamas.

The Party for Socialism and Liberation-Springfield organized the demonstration.

It’s the organization’s second protest in Springfield since the war began. The group says Israel is violating human rights in Gaza.

The group plans to demonstrate again Saturday.

Historic Springfield Park Set for Renovations

Historic Jubilee Park in Springfield will get a makeover.

The city wants to make the park more accessible and user friendly.

Tim Rosenbury, Director of Quality of Place Initiatives, says the perimeter of the park will be opened up, several trees replaced, and other landscaping work done.

The project is expected to cost less than 5-thousand dollars. A start date for the project has not been set.

Two Former Evangel Professors Return Home after being Trapped in Israel

Two former professors at Evangel University are home safe after a perilous trip to Israel.

Dr. Wade and Lacey Nunnally arrived at Springfield-Branson National Airport Saturday night to a crowd of over 100 family and friends greeting them back.

The couple, who taught at Evangel, were frequent visitors to the West Asian country since Wade received his graduate degree there in the 1980s.

They were scheduled to give tours in Israel over the next few weeks, but arrived to see the nation in turmoil with the war against Hamas breaking out just minutes after they landed.

While they are now home safe, the Nunnally’s say they are not deterred, and will continue to lend aid as necessary.

Man from Springfield Killed in Single-Car Crash Near Stockton

A man from Springfield is dead following a car crash in Cedar County Sunday afternoon.

Police say 28-year-old Daniel Davis was driving on County Road 676 north of Stockton when he went off the road, went down and embankment and crashed into a tree.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, and investigators say he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

It is the 116th traffic death in Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop D’s district this year.

Child Care Reported as a Serious Problem in Missouri

The Missouri Chamber of Commerce says the availability and cost of child care are serious problems in the state.

The State Department of Elementary and Secondary Education reports that about a third of child care facilities in the state remain closed after the COVID 29 pandemic.

The Missouri Chamber of Comerce says the state lost out on more than a billion dollars in business in 2022 because of a lack of child care.

Hiland Dairy Closes Lake Ozark Location

Hiland Dairy has closed it’s office in Lake Ozark.

A statement from the company says the Lake Ozark office was closed as part of corporate realignment with Prarie Farms Dairy.

All employees at lake Ozark were offered other positions with the company.

Company officials say the realignment should improve customer service and fuel consumption for both Hiland Dairy and Prarie Farms Dairy.

Former Bus Driver in Springfield Sentenced for Sexual Exploitation of a Child

Prosecutors in Greene County say a former Springfield bus driver will spend over a decade in prison on sexual exploitation of a child charges.

42-year-old Gordon Roughton II pleaded guilty to the charges after investigators discovered he had been taken explicit photos of children will driving a bus for an area children’s program.

Police say the photos he took were later shared in a group chat with several other adults, which he admitted to being a member of.

Roughton was previously employed by Springfield Public Schools as both a substitute teacher and bus driver, and was also a bus driver for Springfield Catholic.

He was sentenced to 17 years in prison according to the Western District of Missouri Attorney’s Office.

Nixa Man Sentenced for Shooting at Law Enforcement

A man from Nixa has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for shooting at a Greene County Deputy.

Jason Gideon was driving a stolen pickup last January when the deputy tried to stop him. Gideon drove off and Fair Grove Police set up spike strips that deflated one of the truck’s tires.

Gideon continued to drive, shooting at deputies from the pickup.

He crashed on Highway 65 and was arrested.
