After nearly eight years, Missouri Commissioner of Education Margie Vandeven is resigning.
She announced Tuesday her intentions to step down on July 1, 2024 after taking over the role in 2014.
Vandeven led the education system in the state through several difficult periods, most notably the COVID-19 pandemic.
She received support from Governor Mike Parson, the Missouri School Boards’ Association and several other groups for her continued work for the states youth.
Reasons for why Vandeven is resigning have not been released.
