Woman Stabbed In Springfield

Springfield Police are investigating a stabbing that injured a woman Tuesday night.

Officers responded to the 1000 block of East Elm Arcade Street and found a woman with a stab wound.

Investigators believe there was an argument between neighbors.

She was taken to a local hospital.

High-Speed Chase in Cedar County, Ends in Polk County

A man is in custody after leading authorities on a high-speed chase into Polk County.

Authorities say a Cedar County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to pull the man over sometime Monday in the Stockton area, but the suspect fled the scene.

A chase ensued, with speeds reaching over 80 miles per hour, and the suspect opened fire on officers during the pursuit.

One deputy is reported to have fired back on the man.

The chase came to an end due to a crash near Fair Play. The suspect was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.

The identity of the man, and the extent of his injuries as well as charges, have not been released.

Wednesday’s high is expected to sit at 100, with heat indices between 100-110.

Priebe Strong Blood Drive

The community will have a chance to support first responders and dozens of local hospital patients at Wednesday’s “Priebe Strong Blood Drive.”

The event takes place from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Republic School District Central Offices at 636 North Main Street.

Officer Mark Priebe suffered career-ending injuries when he was run over by a man in an SUV on the parking lot of police headquarters in Springfield.

Man from Springfield Charged with Assault Following Attempted Stabbing near SPD Headquarters

A man from Springfield is in custody after allegedly trying to stab multiple people outside of the Springfield Police headquarters.

Investigators say an SPD officer was leaving the building when he heard multiple people screaming. He rushed to the scene and found 60-year-old Darryl Turner trying to stab someone.

Turner was arrested at the scene before anyone was injured.

Officers say the victim was attempting go get Turner to sign some documents when he became upset.

Turner is charged with first-degree domestic assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.

He is being held in the Greene County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

Aurora Man Dies From Injuries Suffered In a Crash Last Week

A man has died from injuries suffered in a head-on crash last week.

The Highway Patrol says 82-year-old Mance Wilkerson of Aurora died Sunday at a Springfield hospital from injuries received in a crash on US 60 near Verona last Thursday.

Another driver crossed the centerline and struck Wilkerson’s vehicle head-on.

Owner of Affordable Towing Accused of Violating Terms of Release; Back in Custody

The owner of Springfield-area business Affordable Towing is back in custody after allegedly violating the terms of his release.

Investigators say Dennis Cleveland broke the terms and was arrested on July 5th. The details of how he committed the violation have not been released.

He pleaded guilty in March on charges of conspiracy to violate the Clean Air Act and tampering with a Clean Air Act device.

Cleveland admitted to disabling emissions control systems in diesel-fueled tow trucks repeatedly since 2011.

He is due in court for a bond revocation hearing on July 20.

Woman from Kansas City Sentenced for Kidnapping, Sexual Assault in Springfield

A woman from Springfield will spend years in prison after allegedly taking part in the kidnapping and sexual assault of another woman in 2020.

Tiffany Lentz was sentenced Monday to 18 years in prison for charges of first-degree sodomy, among other charges.

The list of other charges, and the length of each sentence can be found below:

  • 18 years for sex trafficking
  • 15 years for first-degree kidnapping
  • 15 years for first-degree assault
  • Four years for unlawful use of a weapon
  • Three years for armed criminal action

Investigators say Lentz, as well as co-defendant Nicholas Madrid, kidnapped the victim and held her captive in a home in southwest Springfield.

The victim told police they were going to make her sell her body to pay off a debt. She was restrained using zip ties and medication that kept her drowsy and unconscious.

Prosecutors did not specify if Lentz charges would be served concurrently or separately.

Crash Near Sarcoxie Leaves 9 Injured, One Seriously

Nine people have been injured in a crash on I-44 near Sarcoxie.

The Highway Patrol says James Hake from Springfield was behind the wheel of a car that hit another vehicle from behind Sunday night.

The car that was hit went off the road, hit a sign, and flipped. Hake’s vehicle landed on a median cable after hitting a concrete drain and flipping.

Hake was rushed to a local hospital with serious injuries. Six adults and two kids from Bentonville, Arkansas had minor injuries.

Explosives Found During Vehicle Search

Howell County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating after a search for a wanted suspect led to explosive devices being found.

Around 1 a.m. Sunday morning, deputies came across a suspicious vehicle during their search for a wanted person. The vehicle was occupied, and one of the passengers did have an active arrest warrent.

While the deputies were confirming the warrents, they witnessed an object being thrown from the window of the vehicle. Upon investigation, they found it to be a home made explosive device. After searching the vehicle, they found a second device, as well as a controlled substance.

The Jefferson City Bomb Squad was called in to safely handle the explosives.
