Nixa School Board Meeting to Decide on Books in School Libraries

The Nixa School Board will hold a special meeting Tuesday night, June 20th, to review books some parents want removed from school libraries.

The board will also review three books that could be in violation of a new state law, including “Maus” by Art Spiegelman. The board will also decide whether to keep or restrict four other books.

District officials say the books have been reviewed by library staff and administrators, and the board will make a final decision on them at the meeting.

The board will meet at 6:30 PM, Tuesday, June 20th.

Arrested On Warrant After Being Dragged By Car

A wanted Greene County man was arrested Sunday night after being dragged and hit by a car near Marshfield.

The Highway Patrol say 20-year-old Tylinn White was clinging to the undercarriage of a vehicle when it began moving.

He lost his grip and was hit by the vehicle.

White was taken into custody by Greene County Deputies on a warrant, after being checked out by medical personnel.

Court documents say White is charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle, and stealing for an incident on June 14.

MO Ag Department Asking Farmers File Claim Against Sarcoxie Sale Barn

The Missouri Department of Agriculture is asking farmers who sold cattle at a Sarcoxie sale barn to file a claim.

Agriculture officials say there is a concern that Shubert Livestock Sales L-L-C in Sarcoxie has allegedly not paid farmers who sold their livestock at their auction facility.

Producers who have not been paid for their livestock have 60 days from the sale date to file a claim.

This includes receiving non-sufficient funds checks.

Pappy’s Place Put Up for Sale

One of Springfield’s most famous restaurants is now up for sale.

Pappy’s Place, located on North Main Street in Springfield, was owned by Wayne and Susan Rader for years.

Wayne passed away a few months ago, and Susan says she is ready for the next chapter of her life.

Officials say the restaurant will stay open until it is eventually sold.

Swimmer Found Dead at Lake of the Ozarks

A man from Illinois is dead after being found at Lake of the Ozarks.

Highway Patrol Troopers say 30-year-old Kendall Henderson was at the lake Sunday night when he jumped off a dock into the water to swim.

When he went into the water, he did not resurface.

Investigators say they searched the lake for some time Sunday night, but had to suspend the search. He was found when authorities renewed the search Monday morning.

The Chicago native was found near mile marker 20 of the main channel of the lake.

Fire in Pineville Woods Set Intentionally

The fire department in Pineville says flames near Elk River were deliberately set by a person on the river.

The fire is in a heavily wooded area inaccessible to fire trucks. The fire department says it could continue to burn for several days.

Missouri Department of Conservation agents and the Pineville Fire Department are working to keep the fire from farmland.

All non-essential federal offices are closed on this Juneteenth holiday, and most banks are shut down.

There is no mail delivery from the US Postal Service, and there is no trading on Wall Street. Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States.

It marks the day in 1865 when the country’s last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas were informed that they were freed under the Emancipation Proclamation.

Overnight Severe Storms Bring Damaging Winds to the Ozarks

Severe thunderstorms producing damaging winds have downed trees and caused power outages in the Ozarks overnight Sunday morning.

The severe storms moved into our western counties around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning for McDonald and southwestern Barry Counties, issued at 1:23 a.m. warned of up to 80 mile per hour winds.

The storms produced significant wind damage across northeastern Oklahoma and southwest Missouri, eventually pushing into the Springfield Metro Area.

Here are the wind and damage reports we’ve received early Sunday morning.

Branches down on a house in Webb City.

58 mile per hour wind gust at Northeast Airport Drive in Jasper County.

69 mile per hour wind gust reported by amateur radio between Diamond and Wentworth.

50-55 mile per hour winds in southern Stone County.

62 mile per hour wind gust in Neosho.

Tree down into an electric transformer in Anderson.

Several trees down in the Goodman area.

Several trees down in the Noel and Southwest City area.

Power outages in and around Pineville, including the sheriff’s office.

54 mile per hour wind gust reported in Blue Eye.

Sarcoxie Farmers can File Claim for Unpaid Cattle Sales

The Missouri Department of Agriculture is urging local farmers to file a claim if you sold cattle and didn’t get paid.

Officials say farmers in Sarcoxie sold animals at Schubert Livestock Sales, but recieved no money.
