Raise Coming for Springfield Public School Workers

Springfield Public School Employees will be getting a raise under the budget approved by the board of education this week.

The salary for starting teachers will be $43,200 dollars.

Cara stassel, Executive Director of Business Services for SPS, says the new budget also provides raises for other positions that were at a lower starting wage, including cafeteria workers. Cafeteria Supervisor, Lynette Wright says wthout those raises, the district would have lost quite a few workers.

Fatal Stabbing in Marshfield

Police are investigating a deadly stabbing in Marshfield.

Officers responded to a home in the 600 block of East Third Street Wednesday evening where they found a man dead outside the house.

Two suspects have been arrested.

The name of the victim has not been released.

Springfield Police Warning Residents Where They Can/Can’t Use Marijuana

With a city ordinance on marijuana use in place for the city of Springfield, the Springfield Police Department wants residents to know where it is acceptable to use marijuana, and where it isn’t.

The Springfield City Council approved Section 78-762 earlier this month, prohibiting marijuana from being used in public spaces.

A list of those places include, but are not limited to:

  • Streets
  • Sidewalks
  • Highways
  • Transportation Facilities
  • Amusement Parks
  • Parks
  • Playgrounds
  • Parking Lots
  • Common Areas for both homes and apartments

The ordinance is in effect for both recreational and medicinal marijuana users.

House Fire in Springfield; Investigation Underway

Authorities in Springfield are investigating the cause of a fire that damaged a vacant house in the city.

Crews were called to the scene at around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Walnut and Forest with the house in flames.

Firefighters say no one was inside the home at the time of the fire, and the flames were quickly put out.

No injuries were reported. Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire, but say it may have started in the back of the house.

Dangerous Temperatures in the Ozarks

Dangerous heat is expected in the Ozarks through Friday, with a heat advisory in effect over the next three days.

High temps will range from 95 up to 105, with heat index readings climbing up around 105-110.

Drink plenty of water, avoid strenuous activities outdoors during the hottest part of the day, and check on your elderly friends and neighbors.

Springfield School Board Decides Against Affirming the LGBTQ Community

The Springfield School Board has decided not to issue a statement of support for the LGBTQ community.

Several people spoke against issuing a statement of support at Tuesday night’s board meeting.

Board member Steve Makoski and two other board members also spoke in favor of removing “safe space” stickers and pride flags from schools.

Timothy Norton Pleads Guilty In Rainwater’s Death

One of the two men accused in the death of Cassidy Rainwater entered a guilty plea in court Tuesday.

Timothy Norton pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in Rainwater’s death in the summer of 2021.

A judge sentenced him to life in prison without parole.

Earlier this year, a judge sentenced a co-defendant James Phelps to life in prison without probation or parole after he entered an Alford Plea.

McDonald County Woman Charged In Death of Unborn Child

A McDonald County woman is now facing charges for the death of a woman’s unborn child.

A Department of Justice news release says 43-year-old Amber Waterman of Pineville is now charged with one count of kidnapping resulting in death and one count of death of a child in utero.

The indictment alleges Amber Waterman kidnapped Ashely Bush to claim Bush’s unborn child as her own in the fall of 2022.

She allegedly transported Bush from Arkansas to Missouri.

The indictment alleges the kidnapping resulted in the death of Bush and her unborn baby. Waterman remains in federal custody.

Shell Knob Man Drowns at Table Rock Lake

A man has drowned at Table Rock Lake.

The Highway Patrol says 62-year-old Harry Chamberlin of Shell Knob is believed to have fallen overboard from his boat, while fishing Monday, near the MO 86 bridge in Table Rock Lake.

His body was recovered Tuesday morning.

Teenager from Springfield Arrested, Charged in Connection with Armed Robbery, Crime Spree

A teenager from Springfield is in custody on charges of armed robbery, and possibly a crime spree in the area.

Investigators say 18-year-old Quinton Jones walked into the Kum & Go convenience store on Division Street near Packer Road May 18th.

Witnesses at the gas station say Jones was wearing a white mask and carrying a shotgun, threatening employees and demanding money.

When he left the store, he was seen in a Honda Pilot which had been reported stolen May 13.

Police found the car shortly after the robbery wrecked and abandoned.

Jones allegedly assaulted a family member later on the date of May 18.

As the investigation continued, officers found evidence that Jones had also fired some 12 shots into the Vroom Groom car wash on June 21st along East Chestnut.

Jones is facing charges of first-degree robbery, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.
