Banning Transgender Athletes in Girl’s Sports Proposed in Missouri Senate Bill

A Missouri State Senator has introduced a bill that would ban transgender athletes from participating in school sports on girl’s sports teams.

Senator Justin Brown’s bill would prohibit anyone not assigned female at birth from participating in school sports, athletic competitions, tournaments, and games intended for those under the age of 19.

The Missouri State Highschool activities association has had a policy in effect since 2012 that requires transgender athletes to apply to participate in sports.

Ozark’s WW2 Veteran Ed Fox Celebrates 100th Birthday

A World War 2 veteran in Springfield celebrates his 100th birthday.

Edgar Fox was honored by friends and family for his service and his life/ Fox was in combat at the Battle of Iwo Jima, and served in Japan as a member of the American occupying force when the war ended.

Springfield Mayor Ken McClure made January 7th “Ed Fox Day”. Governor Parson also issued a proclamation honoring Fox.

One Dead and Five Seriously Injured In Weekend Crash on James River Freeway Just West of Springfield

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating a three-vehicle crash that killed a man from Republic and seriously injured five other people, including three kids.

Troopers say a vehicle going westbound on the freeway near Farm Road 135 just after 8:30 a.m. Sunday, ran off the roadway, crossed the median and hit a concrete bridge.

That car, carrying the driver and four passengers, collided with a pickup when entering the eastbound lanes of traffic.

The pickup then spun and hit a car driven by Donald Underwood, 72, Republic.

Underwood was pronounced dead at the scene.

A seven-year-old boy, a ten year-old boy, and a 14-year-old girl, all passengers in the first car, were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, along with an adult passenger and the driver, David Cantrell, 38, Springfield.

Grant Money For Airport Improvments

The Springfield-Branson National Airport will receive a grant for a major improvement.

Retiring Senator Roy Blunt earmarked $6.4 million dollars towards the cost of expanding the apron or tarmac at the airport’s terminal.

The expansion will lessen tarmac congestion as airliners arrive and depart.

It will also help prepare the airport for expansion of the terminal building.

The work is projected to start in two or three years.

Officer-Involved Shooting Leaves One Suspect Dead near Osage Beach

Troopers with the Missouri State Highway Patrol says one person is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Laurie.

Reports say 44-year-old Brian Mummert was shot and killed Thursday night by an officer with the Laurie Police Department.

According to investigators, the officer approach Mummert on the front porch of a home on Park Place near State Highway O at around 7:30 and asked him to comply once he saw a gun.

They say Mummert attempted to draw the weapon, at which point the officer in question opened fire.

Records show that EMS and fire crews were called to the scene to perform life-saving measures, but Mummert died at the scene.

The Highway Patrol says they have now taken over the investigation.

Greene County Sheriff’s Department K9 Athos Dies

The Greene County Sheriff’s office is mourning the death of one of it’s K-9 officers.

Retired K-9 Athos passed away Wednesday night at age eight.

Athos was trained in narcotics detection, tracking and suspect apprehension.

He also worked with the SWAT team and appeared on Live PD.

He was born in Czechoslovakia.

Branson Man Killed In Crash Near Bruner

A man is dead after a crash of Highway 14 east of Bruner.

The Highway Patrol says a car driven by 59 year old Bryan Baker of Branson ran off the road and struck a tree.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Man to be Sentenced for 2018 Triple-Murder in Springfield

A man accused of a triple murder in Springfield in 2018 will be sentenced this week.

Luis Perez was found guilty of the counts of first-degree murder and two counts of assault after investigators say he killed his ex-roommates in November of 2018.

Police say he killed his roommates on November 1 of that year, and then later killed the woman who gave him a gun to commit the initial killings.

Perez rejected a plea deal in 2019 that would have given him life in prison.

Reports say Perez will be sentenced on Friday, January 6, at 1:45 p.m.

He could potentially be sentenced to death.

Woman from Marshfield Charged with First-Degree Murder in Boyfriend’s Death

A woman from Marshfield is facing a charge of murder in the death of her boyfriend on New Year’s Eve.

Reports say 21-year-old Madison Rueckert has been charged with first-degree murder after her boyfriend was shot and killed at 24-years-old.

The boyfriend’s identity hasn’t been released at this time.

Authorities were called to the home in Marshfield, where they found the man dead by a gunshot wound to the head.

Investigators say Rueckert admitted to shooting her boyfriend after she found text messages to and from other women on his phone.

They also say a gun was found that they believe was used in the shooting.

Nixa Police Arrest Man After Brief Standoff

Nixa Police arrested a wanted man after a brief standoff.

Officers went to a house on Hillcrest Avenue to serve a man a warrant for a felony probation violation.

Investigators say the man would not come to the door when they knocked.

They waited until they received a warrant to enter the home.

The man then surrendered without incident.

Nixa Junior High was place in secure mode during the incident.
