Westbound I-44 Shut Down Between Chestnut Expressway and James River Freeway Exits West of Springfield

Both lanes of westbound I-44 have been shut down west of the Springfield city limits at the 69.2 mile marker following a crash early Tuesday morning.

We had reports that emergency vehicles were blocking the left lane of eastbound I-44 in that area, but that lane closure is no longer in effect as of 7:30 a.m.

Westbound traffic is being forced to exit at the Chestnut Expressway exit.

KOLR-10 is reporting two crashes in that area Tuesday morning, with one of them involving a car where the passenger had to be extricated, and another involving a semi-tractor unit and two dump trucks.

There’s been no information released on injuries.
