Turkey Trot Returns For 28th Year

A Thanksgiving tradition is back!

The 28th Annual Turkey Trot will kick off at 8 a.m in downtown Springfield.

This is the first year it will be held in person since the pandemic.

The race raises money for Developmental Center of the Ozarks, Springfield-Greene County Park Board Scholarship fund and Ozarks Food Harvest.

The cost to participate is $35 for adults and $30 for children.

Springfield Man Sentenced To 235 Months in Prison

A Springfield man will spend time in federal prison in a child exploitation case.

A judge sentenced Kody Ray Kelso to 235 months in prison.

Investigators say Kelso used a teen dating site to contact a person that he believed was a 13 year-old girl and asked for them to send him nude photos.

Instead it was law enforcement in the U-K.

He has been in jail since he was arrested in June of 2021 after law enforcement search his apartment.

Springfield City Council Considers Renaming Terminal at Springfield-Branson National Airport

The Springfield City Council is considering renaming one of the terminals at Springfield-Branson National Airport in honor of one of the area’s largest political figures.

In a release Thursday, the council says the will be discussing the renaming on November 28th.

If approved, the name of the terminal would change from the Midfield Terminal to the Roy Blunt Terminal.

The former U.S. Senator was born in Niangua, 40 minutes from Springfield in Webster County.

Blunt attended Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar before getting his first political appointment as the Greene County Clerk in 1972.

Following his tenure in Greene County, Blunt was elected as Secretary of State in Missouri, and was a seven-term congressman in the U.S. House for the state’s seventh district.

Since 2011, Blunt has served in the U.S. Senate representing Missouri. He did not seek reelection in 2022 and will retire once his term is up at the beginning of next year.

Galloway Village Neighborhood Association President Melanie Bach Picks Up Papers to Run For Mayor of Springfield

The woman who led a successful campaign against Springfield’s Question 1 on the November ballot appears ready to explore a run for mayor.

Melanie Bach, President of the Galloway Village Neighborhood Association, picked up a packet Friday from Springfield City Clerk Anita Cotter’s office.

More than 70% of voters who cast a ballot in the November 8th election decided against rezoning land for development near Sequiota Park, and Bach was the face of the “Vote No” campaign, going door to door and talking with people all across the city.

Now Bach may be gathering signatures for a different cause.

Petitions to run for the open mayor and city council positions must be turned into the clerk’s office between December 5th and January 17th.

Springfield Mayor Ken McClure, who backed the development project, has indicated he’s running for his fourth term.

High School Coach Charged with Sex Crimes

A former high school basketball coach faces new charges of sex crimes. Charles

Dryer is charged in Hickory County with two counts of statutory sodomy and

one count of statutory rape, all felonies. The alleged crimes occurred in 2011.

A warrant has been issued for Dryer’s arrest. Dryer was previously charged

with several sex crimes in iron county dating back to the 2007-2008 school year.

He’s scheduled to stand trial in Iron County next March.

Governor Parson has called a 9:30 a.m. press conference Wednesday to name the state’s next attorney general.

Current A-G Eric Schmitt was elected to the U-S Senate earlier this month, and will be sworn in to office in January.

The appointee will have about two years left on Schmitt’s term at attorney general.

In 2018, Parson named Schmitt to the A-G’s position after Josh Hawley was elected to the U-S Senate.

Former Agape Boarding School Teacher Arrested For Child Pornography

A former teacher at the Agape Boarding School is jailed in Alabama charged with possession of child pornography.

According to police and jail records, Steve Wukmer is facing 215 counts of possession of child pornography.

Wukmer taught at the embattled Agape Boarding School in Stockton from 2005 to 2006.

He is in the Dekalb County Jail in Alabama.

11th Inmate Death of 2022 at Licking Prison

Another inmate has died at the South Central Correctional Center in Licking.

According to a Department of Corrections press release, 53 year-old Larry Bolton was pronounced dead at 11:30 a.m Tuesday morning.

Bolton was serving a five-year sentence for second-degree assault from Maries County.

An autopsy will be conducted.

This is the eleventh inmate death in 2022 at the prison in Licking.

Driver Strikes Pedestrian & Utility Pole in Springfield

A woman is hospitalized in serious condition after being hit by a van in North Springfield Monday evening.

The driver of the van struck the woman as she was crossing West Avenue near Calhoun.

The driver then crashed the van into a utility pole.

Springfield Police do not believe the drive was impaired.
