Suspicious Death In North Springfield

Police are investigating a suspicious death in North Springfield.

Officers responded to a house in the 1800 block of North Lone Pine around noon Tuesday.

Investigators say the circumstances surrounding the death are suspicious and they are not releasing the victim’s name at this time.

Springfield Police Investigating Possible Murder-Suicide

Police in Springfield are investigating a possible murder-suicide that left two men dead.

Officers were called to Cox North Wednesday afternoon after hospital staff reported two men entering the hospital with assault-like injuries.

The victims alleged they were attacked by a man with a hammer at a business on West Chestnut Expressway between Miller Street and Mahn Street.

When authorities arrived at the business, they found the body of 35-year-old Vincent Odom.

Police say Odom attacked the two men, and then killed himself.

Investigators later reported that one of the victims, 53-year-old Phillip Campbell, later died of his injuries at the hospital.

The other victim suffered moderate injuries and was released from the hospital.

Woman Sentenced for Kidnapping Son at Gunpoint in Springfield

Prosecutors say a woman from Mississippi has been sentenced in Springfield for kidnapping her son at gunpoint.

26-year-old Victoria Brown pleaded guilty in July to charges of kidnapping, assault and burglary.

The judge in the case suspended several sentences, giving Brown a total of three years in prison for armed criminal action and five years of probation for kidnapping, assault and burglary.

Investigators say she admitted to abducting her son in January of 2020. The two were found by authorities shortly after the kidnapping in the Seymour area.

Your Greene County Property Tax Info is Now Available Online

Greene County personal property and real estate tax statements for 2022 are now available online for review and payment at www.CountyCollector.com.

All personal property and real estate taxes must be paid before midnight on Dec. 31, 2022. Late payments will incur a 9% penalty and 2% interest charge.

If a taxpayer cannot find an online personal property or real estate tax statement for 2022, or has a question about the tax amount, they will need to contact the Greene County Assessor’s Office, at 417-868-4101 or assessoronline@greenecountymo.gov, to have their property assessed to determine its value.

Local Church Turns Into Shelter

A Springfield church has converted to an emergency shelter for families for the winter.

The Connecting Grounds Church will not hold in-person services until April.

The church can house up to four families at a time. Church members say a shelter for families in the area is desperately needed. Volunteers from the church will operate the shelter.

Man from Springfield Arrested, Allegedly Pointed Gun at Woman and Her Children

A man from Springfield has been charged with three separate felonies after investigators say he beat a woman and then pointed a gun at her and two children.

48-year-old Jaime Omar Vasquez was arrested on Saturday, and prosecutors charged with first-degree domestic assault, third-degree domestic assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

Investigators say he broke into the home via a window and hit the woman in the face repeatedly with his fists and a flashlight, causing severe bruising and a possible dislocated jaw.

The victim later told police after the assault, he grabbed a .357 magnum and held it to her head, and the heads of her two children and threatened to kill them repeatedly.

Days after the assault, the victim contacted a neighbor who helped her and her children escape the area. The neighbor then called police, who were able to apprehend Vasquez.

Crews Locate Hiker in Arkansas after Search Lasting Several Days

First responders say they have located a hiker who had been missing since last Thursday.

67-year-old Clinton Smith was found Tuesday afternoon near the area of Buffalo National River in Newton County.

The Baton Rouge, Louisiana native began his hike Thursday along Hemmed-in-Hollow trail, and lost contact shortly after.

Authorities haven’t said when they will help Smith leave the area, but they are providing him with first aid, food and water.

Reports say he has suffered no significant injuries.

Morrisville Vandalism Investigation Continues

Police in Morrisville are searching for suspects in a string of vandalisms in the area.

Officers say dozens of buildings were vandalized with spray paint, and that mailboxes and one resident’s fence were also damaged.
