Governor Parson Honors SWMO Law Enforcement Officers

Two Southwest Missouri law enforcement officers and a Bolivar resident are being honored by Governor Mike Parson.

Highway Patrolman Colton Beck received a Medal of Valor, Bolivar resident Bryan Yarbrough was awarded a Public Safety Civilian Partnership Award, and Springfield-Greene County Park Ranger Robert Bridges was awarded the Red, White, and Blue Heart for his bravery in a shootout in Springfield.

Fire At Dawt Mill Resort

Firefighters battled a fire at the historic Dawt Mill resort on the North Fork River in Ozark County Wednesday night.

The fire was contained to a kitchen, but the smoke spread into the resort.

Investigators do not believe there was any structural damage.

The Dawt Mill resort is located near Tecumseh.

Fatal Jet Ski Accident at Lake of the Ozarks

A man is dead after a jet ski accident at the Lake of the Ozarks.

The Highway Patrol says 62 year old Russell Rauba of Jefferson City struck a wake and his jet ski became airborne.

He landed on the jet ski, was knocked unconscious and slid off into the water.

He was taken to a local hospital were he died from his injuries.

Springfield Police Rounding Up Goats

Springfield Police had an unusual problem Sunday.

They had to heard a group of goats that had escaped captivity and were in running into traffic.

All 18 goats were eventually rounded up by officers.

Two Springfield Residents Sentenced for Child Sex Crimes

In a release Wednesday, the Department of Justice announced two people from Springfield were sentenced for child sex crimes.

Joseph Gibson and Danna Rodriguez were each sentenced to over 20 years in prison after admitting to engaging in sex trafficking.

According to investigators, the two sex trafficked a 15-year-old girl, and at one point convinced the girl to try and get some of her friends to participate. The other girls refused.

Police reports said Rodriguez took lude photos of the girl and sent them to Gibson. Afterwards, officers say the two drugged the 15-year-old with marijuana and ecstasy and coerced her into engaging in sexual activity with a man.

Both Gibson and Rodriguez pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of a minor and sex trafficking of a minor.

Gibson received a 30 year prison sentence, while Rodriguez was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Neither will be eligible for parole and will spend 25 years on supervised release at the conclusion of their sentence.

Convicted Killer Could Soon be Free Due to Supreme Court Ruling

A convicted killer from the Ozarks could soon be released from prison.

Jess Rush was convicted in 1996 of the murder of Trudy Darby in Macks Creek.

He could soon be a free man due to a Supreme Court ruling allowing his release due to him being a minor at the time of the murder.

Rush was 15 years old when he was convicted.

Former KC Chiefs Assistant Coach Scheduled to Plead Guilty in DWI Crash

A former Kansas City Chiefs Assistant Coach is scheduled to plead guilty to his role in a car crash that seriously injured a young girl.

Online records show Brett Reid, the son of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, is scheduled to plead guilty on Monday to felony driving while intoxicated. He was set to go on trial later this month.

Reid was charged after police said he was speeding and intoxicated when he hit two stopped cars on an entrance ramp near arrowhead stadium in February 2021. A girl in one of the cars, Ariel Young, suffered a traumatic brain injury.

Reid faces up to 7 years in prison.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is reporting six fatalities over the Labor Day weekend.

Five people died in traffic crashes and one in a boating crash.

Four out of the five accidents were investigated by the Highway Patrol while one was investigated by the Springfield Police Department.

One person died from drowning.

Morgan Man Charged In Crash That Killed His Son

A Morgan County man is facing charges in the death of a child in a one-vehicle crash over the weekend.

The Highway Patrol says 40 year old Larry Lunnin of Rocky Mount ran his jeep off Route W, struck a sign and overturned.

His three year-old son died in the crash.

Lunnin faces charges of second-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, failing to secure a child in a child restraint, and two counts of of child abduction, for not turning his children over to his wife, when he lost custody of them in March.
