Hurricane Fiona: Convoy of Hope Sends Teams to Puerta Rico

Convoy of Hope has sent teams to Puerta Rico after Hurricane Fiona made landfall.

According to Ethan Forhetz, National Spokesperson for the organization, their teams are safe, but communication is spotty.

The biggest concern they are addressing is the massive flooding as a result of the hurricane. Convoy of Hope plans to send more team members to the island to help with disaster relief.

Escaped Inmate in Newton County

The Newton County Sheriff’s office is searching for an escaped inmate.

Michael Durison was being treated at Freeman Neosho Hospital Sunday when he escaped.
Durison is 6 feet tall and weighs 160 pounds and has black hair and hazel eyes. He was wearing a white t-shirt and orange scrub pants when he escaped.

Durison was being help for authorities in Louisiana.

Theft Investigation Underway in Springfield

Springfield Police are investigating the theft of thousands of dollars of musical equipment over the weekend.

Pastor Dennis Cleveland runs bible studies out of Affordable Towing. Sometime early Saturday morning, a man stole equipment from the building.

The theft was captured on security video. Police have not released the identity of the suspect yet.

Fatal Shooting in Springfield

Police responded to the area of Lyon and Main in Springfield Friday morning at 10 am. Upon arrival, they found a man dead of a gunshot wound in his vehicle.

Police do know the identity of the victim, but have not released it yet.

Police believe this was an isolated incident.

Nixa High School Named a 2022 National Blue Ribbon School by US Department of Education

US Secretary of Education, Miguel Cardona, has named Nixa High School as one of 2022’s National Blue Ribbon Schools.

The award, which has been referred to as the “Oscars of School Awards,” is the second that Nixa High School received, having also won in 2013. This honor places Nixa High School as one of the top performing schools in Missouri, and the nation.

Dr. Gearl Loden, superintendent stated, “Our high school consistently shows it is a place where our students are given a high quality education that is one of the top in the state and nation.  This achievement represents not only the work of Nixa High School, but also the entire school district as all of our teachers and staff prepare our students for their success at Nixa High School.  The foundation that is laid by all of our schools means our students are set up for academic excellence at the high school.”

“I applaud all the honorees for the 2022 National Blue Ribbon Schools Award for creating vibrant, welcoming, and affirming school communities where students can learn, grow, reach their potential, and achieve their dreams,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona. “As our country continues to recover from the pandemic, we know that our future will only be as strong as the education we provide to all of our children. Blue Ribbon Schools have gone above and beyond to keep students healthy and safe while meeting their academic, social, emotional, and mental health needs. Springfield Man Convicted of Kidnapping and Domestic Assault

Seth Thomas Beisner, 31, of Springfield has been sentenced in a case involving multiple charges.

Beisner was convicted of 1st and 3rd degree assault, as well as 2nd degree kidnapping. He received 8 years for for the 1st degree domestic assault charge, 7 years for the 2nd degree kidnapping charge, and 4 years for the 3rd degree domestic assault charge. The sentences will be served at the same time.

According to a June 6th probable cause statement, Beisner had become highly intoxicated, which led to an incident where he assaulted his partner in their home. A name that has been redacted in the probable cause statement, was present and involved.

Man Arrested, Under Investigation for Church Fire in Ironton

Authorities say a man from Ironton is in custody, and is believed to be connected to a fire that burned down a local church.

Brendan Harris faces several unspecified felony charges, and is currently out on parole for charges of burglary.

Officers were called to the Gospel Trinity Pentecostal Church early Wednesday morning and found the building in flames.

The church was almost completely burned to the ground, and was declared a total loss.

Authorities were later contacted Wednesday afternoon about Harris, and found items that were stolen from the church at the scene. They tracked him to a home in Farmington, where they made the arrest.

Ozark County Woman Sentenced for Abandoning Daughter’s Corpse

Rebecca Ruud, of Ozark County, has been sentenced for abandoning her daughters corpse. The county had already convicted her of murder in the death of her teen daughter, Savannah Leckie, sentencing her to 4 years.

Ruud’s defense argued that Leckie committed suicide, then merely panicked and burned the body. Ultimately the judge ruled that Ruud killed her daughter, burned the body, and abandoned the corpse. Fellow inmates to Ruud testified that she confessed to the crime in jail.

Cox Health Branson Unveils New Meds-to Beds Program

Cox Health in Branson is promoting it’s newly unveiled Meds-to-Beds program.

The plan allows for hospital pharmacy technicians to personally deliver necessary medications to patients throughout the hospital before they are discharged.

Officials say the program will allow for patients to get their medication at the hospital rather than going to an outside pharmacy, and could lower the risk of readmission.
