Annual Aids Walk to be Held on October 1st

The Aids Project of the Ozarks will hold it’s annual Aids Walk on October first.

This will be the first Aids Walk in 3 years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. There will be live music and activities for children. Those attending are asked to meet at Phelps Grove Park at 9 AM on October 1st. The walk will begin at 10 AM.

Downtown Ozark Revitalization Phase 2 Project Nears Completion

Phase two of a project to revitalize Downtown Ozark is nearly finished.

The street along the square has been replaced to improve pedestrian safety and new sidewalks have been installed.

The project began two years ago with replacement of some electric and water lines.

The project has been paid for with money from a 3/8 cent sales tax.

Fish Kill At Bolivar Park

The City of Bolivar says a fish kill took place at the lake at Dunnegan Memorial Park.

The Bolivar Public Works Department has contacted the Missouri Department of Conservation to investigate the cause of the fish kill.

Liberty Utilities is feeding fresh water into the lake to restore the water quality.

Springfield Police Find Vehicle of Wanted Murder Suspect

Officers with the Springfield Police Department say they have located the vehicle of a man suspected of murder, but have not found the suspect.

Authorities located a 2006 Ford Expedition belonging to 40-year-old Robert Parmley Jr. on Tuesday.

Police arrived at a report of shots fired along North Lyon the morning of September 16th and found 52-year-old Charles Tart dead of a gunshot wound.

Parmley was seen fleeing the area in the Expedition.

SPD says they are unsure about his whereabouts, but warn residents that he should be considered armed and dangerous.

College of the Ozarks has brought in several awards from the US News and World Report, Best Colleges 2022-2023.

The college was named No. 1 Most Innovative School in the Midwest, No. 1 Best Value School in the Midwest, No. 1 Top Performer on Social Mobility, No. 1 Best Undergraduate Teaching in the Midwest, and No. 4 Best Regional College. Additionally the school was recognized as an A+ school for B students.

Record Temperatures Possible in the Ozarks

Record high temps will be in jeopardy over the next two days in the Ozarks. We may come just short of a record in Springfield today with high temps around 95.

The record is 97 set in 2017. Heat index readings will range from 95 to 102.

Truck Fire Shuts Down Eastbound Traffic on I-44 near West Bypass in Springfield

Traffic on eastbound I-44 just before West Bypass in Springfield is being diverted onto Chestnut Expressway Tuesday morning after a truck flipped over and caught fire.

Shane, who’s a local truck driver, tells KWTO News it’s a day cab with a fuel tanker, and it’s laying across the eastbound lanes of the interstate, completely burned.

The scene is being worked by authorities as an injury crash.

The westbound lanes of I-44 are open.

Teen from Springfield Arrested for Shooting at Local Parking Garage

Police in Springfield have arrested a 19-year-old in connection with a shooting on South Campbell Avenue.

Springfield PD at the parking garage around 2 a.m. the morning of August 28th and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound in his foot.

After searching through video footage, authorities identified Kerry Brooks as the suspect.

Brooks faces charges of first-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.

He told police he was only trying to scare the victim, and that he was drunk at the time of the shooting.

Monett Teacher Arrested of Child Sex Crimes

Authorities say a teacher for the Monett School District has been arrested and charged for sexually assaulting a teenage boy.

62-year-old Timothy Steeley has been charged with child abuse and sodomy after a near two-year investigation into the allegation.

Steeley told authorities he met with the 15-year-old to sell textbooks in February of last year.

The teenager later told investigators Steeley performed a sexual act in his pickup truck during the meeting.

He has been reported as a teacher with the Monett R-1 School District. The district has placed Steeley on administrative leave.
