Walk-Run for St. Jude’s Saturday

Hundreds of people are expected to participate in a walk/run for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital Saturday. The walk will be held in Downtown Springfield.

The organization hoped to raise 250 thousand dollars for St. Jude’s. The event will start and end at Hammons Field.

Greene County Deputies will escort runners through the streets.

Legalizing Sports Betting Top Legislative Priority for Next Session

Several State lawmakers say legalizing sports betting is a top priority in the next legislative session.

36 states have already legalized sports betting, including every state surrounding Missouri.

Lawmakers failed to pass a sports betting bill in the last regular session. One proposed bill would put a ten per cent tax on sports bets, bringing in an estimated 16 million dollars annually.

Battle Over Sequiota Park Development Heads To Voters

The Galloway Village Neighborhood Association is still fighting with the City of Springfield over rezoning issues.

Earlier this week, the City of Springfield urged voters to approve the development near Sequiota Park on the November 8th ballot.

President of the Galloway Village Association Melanie Bach says has she talked to numerous people who say they are opposed to the development.

Community Offering Kind Words, Prayers for Missouri State Broadcaster Art Hains

Missouri State University’s “Voice of the Bears”, Art Hains is in critical condition with a rare infection that doctors believe is Guillain-Barre syndrome.

While Art and his family continue to fight, sportscasters and personalities from around the country are showing their support for the hall of fame broadcaster.

Missouri State President Clif Smart took to Twitter to voice his support for Hains.

Congressman Billy Long, a longtime Springfield resident, also offered prayers to Hains’ and his family.

Matt Derrick of Chiefs Digest offered kind words about the Bears and Chiefs radio personality.

Matt Coatney, radio voice for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, showed his support and offered thanks to Hains as a mentor.

Art Hains, Voice of the Bears, Hospitalized with Rare Infection

Hall of Fame Missouri State broadcaster Art Hains is in critical condition with a rare infection.

According to reports, the 66-year-old Hains began feeling ill during the Bears football game against Arkansas on Saturday.

Hains’ family says the symptoms began to progress quickly, and by Monday night he could no longer walk.

According to Hains’ son, Chris, doctors believe he is suffering from Guillain-Barre syndrome, a rare disease that causes a persons body to attack their nervous system.

The latest reports say Hains has been put on oxygen and a feeding tube.

Wyatt Wheeler of the Springfield News Leader, and Art’s co-host on our station station, ESPN the Jock’s afternoon show, Sports Talk, spoke with Chris Hains about Art’s condition.

Wheeler reported that Chris told him, “the family requests nothing, but fervent and continued prayers.”

Hains has been the “Voice of the Bears” for most football, men’s basketball and baseball events since 1985. He also hosts the pre and postgame shows for the Chiefs Radio Network.

John Felts is accused of using PPP money intended for his businesses for personal home improvements. The lawsuit accuses Felts of using fake identities to apply for at least a dozen PPP loans worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Felts owns several restaurants including Hot Cluckers, Taco Habitat, and Bourbon and Beale.

Tax Cut Finalized in MO Senate

An Approximate 1 billion dollar state tax cut has received final approval from the Missouri Senate. The bill now heads to the House for consideration.

Springfield State Senator Lincoln Hough says the tax cut would help both low and high income earners and small businesses that employ our friends and neighbors.
Governor Parson tweeted that he is confident the legislature will approve an income tax cut package.

Both chambers have approved identical farm bills, which extend agricultural tax credits for six years.

Governor Parson describes those votes as “A huge win for agriculture.”

Highway Patrol Says Watch for Farm Equipment

Farmers across the state are working to harvest their crops and that means tractors will be on the highways and roads.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says that last year, there were 203 traffic crashes in Missouri involving farm equipment.

In those crashes, 7 people were killed and 60 people were injured.

The Patrol reminds farmers and motorist alike to share the road and obey the laws.

Months-Long Search for Car Thief Ends in Arrest of Man from Springfield

A man from Springfield is being held at the Greene County Jail as a person of interest in several carjackings around Greene County.

28-year-old Channing Shockley was booked Wednesday as a suspect in at least 10 car thefts since May of this year.

Police say they have evidence connecting him to at least four of those thefts at this time.

Shockley faces one count of vehicle hijacking cause physical injury, four counts of tampering with a motor vehicle, one count of property damage and one count of resisting arrest.
