Recreational Marijuana Vote Slated to Include More

The initiative to legalize marijuana in Missouri will do more than make recreational marijuana legal.

The proposed constitutional amendment would also impose a 6% tax on marijuana sales and require a registration card for growing up to six plants for personal use.

The measure would also allow most people with non-violent marijuana convictions to get out of jail, and have their criminal records cleared.

Recreational Marijuana Approved for November Ballot in Missouri

With general elections set to take place November 8, Missouri residents will be voting on a measure that could legalize recreational marijuana.

In a release Tuesday, Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft says the measure collected the required number of signatures to be put on the November ballot.

If approved, recreational marijuana would be legal for residents 21 and older. They would be able to purchase and grow marijuana for personal use, possibly by the end of the year.

The bill would also remove marijuana-related convictions for nonviolent offenders and will establish a 6% sales tax that would be implemented on all marijuana purchases.

Projections say the tax could break in close to $120 million in the first two years.
