Missouri Reacts to SCOTUS Overturning Roe V Wade

The Supreme Court of the United States has overturned Roe V Wade, the landmark case that legalized abortion nearly 50 years ago.

The Dobbs decision was quickly met with statements released from many of Missouri’s most outspoken pro-life legislators and elected officials.

Attorney General Eric Schmitt ushered Missouri into the place of being the first state to enact it’s “trigger” law, House Bill 126, which effectively ends abortion in the State of Missouri.

Section B of HB126 states, “The enactment of section 188.017 of this act shall only become effective upon notification to the revisor of statutes by an opinion by the attorney general of Missouri…”

HB 126 also states, “Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, no abortion shall be performed or induced upon a woman, except in cases of medical emergency…”

According to a statement issued out of AG Schmitt’s office, “…abortion, except in cases of medical emergency, is now outlawed in the State of Missouri.”

Missouri Senator Josh Hawley also weighed in on Twitter, stating “This is a momentous day in America, when the efforts of generations of modern-day abolitionists comes to fruition. One of the most unjust decisions in American history has been overturned”

Man from Springfield Pleads Guilty in Connection with 2018 Crime Spree

Court documents show a man from Springfield has pleaded guilty to six different charges against him for a 2018 crime spree that included the death of one man.

56-year-old David Bryant pleaded guilty to charges of assault, armed criminal action, sodomy and second-degree murder.

In September of 2018, officers responded to the 1800 block of East Cherry and found 29-year-old Ryan Boulanger suffering from a gunshot wound. Boulanger was rushed to a local hospital, but later died of his injuries.

Bryant also shot another man at the 1100 block of West Norton just 15 minutes after shooting Boulanger. That man was taken to the hospital and survived.

Officers then tracked Bryant to a home on West Tampa. Once at the scene, he opened fire on law enforcement before barricading himself inside.

After a long standoff, authorities were able to negotiate Bryant out of the home, who then rushed at officers before being arrested.

Gov. Parson Marks Dairy Month With Visit To Hiland in Springfield

Governor Mike Parson was in Springfield Thursday at the Hiland Dairy to speak to workers and present a proclamation celebrating dairy month.

Missouri Department of Agriculture director Chris Chinn was also in attendance.

While he was at Hiland Dairy, Governor Parson signed a bill exempting 2026 F-I-F-A World Cup tickets from state and local taxes.

Charges Filed in Deadly Crash in Springfield

Court documents show that prosecutors have charged a man from Springfield in a crash that killed a pedestrian.

Prosecutors have charged David Busick with DWI involving a death and with reckless and imprudent driving after investigators say he struck and killed 43-year-old Matthew Wood last year.

The incident occurred the evening of December 10, 2021 as Busick was driving his Chevy Impala, allegedly under the influence. Police reports show the vehicle made a turn onto Chestnut Expressway from the Eldon Avenue intersection and struck Wood.

First responders transported Wood to a local hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

Police apprehended Busick at the scene of the crash, where they say he tested under the influence.

Stone County Sheriff’s Office Searching for Wanted Fugitive

After an incident Wednesday, the Stone County Sheriff’s Office is requesting help from the public in located and apprehending a wanted fugitive.

Investigators say Jordan Tinker was previously wanted for violating parole in Taney County as well as domestic assault and property damage in Stone County.

Authorities say the attempted to stop Tinker in Taney County. The stop escalated and he nearly hit a trooper with the Missouri Highway Patrol.

Following the incident, Tinker led authorities in Christian County on a chase before he escaped.

In a release, Stone County Sheriff’s say Tinker is a resident of Reeds Spring, but is frequently seen in both Taney and Christian counties. If you see him, deputies urge you to call 911.

One Person Suffers Minor Burns in House Fire on south Florence in Springfield

The Springfield Fire Department is investigating a fire at a home in the 1200 block of south Florence.

Crews say one person suffered minor burns when going back into the home to retrieve some items.

The fire was contained to one room, but there was smoke damage throughout the house.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

UPDATE: Springfield Police Investigate Murder-Suicide

Springfield police are investigating a murder-suicide that took place over two separate scenes Wednesday.

Investigators say at 11:42 a.m., officers were called to the 1600 block of east Adams to check the well-being of a woman.

Officers received information the woman’s ex-boyfriend might be at the home with intentions to harm her.

Based on information received during the initial investigation, police determined the suspect was not at that location, so officers obtained a search warrant.

When police entered the home, they found the body of Cheryl Lamar, 59, Springfield.

The Springfield Police Department identified the suspect as Lydell Jackson, 59, Springfield.

Jackson was located by officers in a mobile home in the 1600 block of east Caravan.

The suspect barricaded himself inside and officers negotiated with Jackson while a search warrant was obtained for the trailer.

Police evacuated homes in the area during the Special Response Team’s standoff with Jackson.

When police entered the mobile hours later, Jackson was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1810 or make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers at 417-869-TIPS (8477).

Water Main Break Causes Traffic Delays at Highway 14 and Gregg Road in Nixa

Motorists in the Nixa area have faced big delays Thursday morning near the intersection of Highway 14 and Gregg Road.

City Public Information Officer Drew Douglas says Nixa Utilities water department crews have been working since early in the morning to repair a broken water main.

Douglas says repair efforts continue through the morning rush, with additional delays expected.

Woman Found Dead, Suspect Dead After Standoff With Springfield Police

A suspect is dead after a standoff with Springfield Police and the SWAT team Wednesday afternoon.

Investigators say the suspect was followed from Adams Street where a woman was found dead.

The suspect then barricaded himself in a house on East Caravan around 1 pm.

Officers entered the house around 6:30 pm and found the suspect dead.

The investigation is ongoing.

No names have been released.

Crocker R-2 School District Classes Canceled After Threat

The Crocker R-2 School District was on lock down after police say they received a possible threat against the school.

The school district went on lock down at 9:15 am and students were sent home two hours later.

The two remaining summer school classes have been canceled as a precaution.

The Crocker Police Department and Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department are investigating leads.
