Congressional Candidate Jay Wasson Endorsed by County Sheriff’s

In a statement Monday, Jay Wasson revealed he has been endorsed by every County Sheriff in the 7th Congressional District.

Wasson, a native of Christian County, is running for the U.S. House of Representatives in Missouri’s 7th District. The winner of the race will succeed Billy Long, who is currently running for U.S. Senate.

Wasson has received endorsements from notable sheriff’s in Christian County, Greene County and Lawrence County among others.

The Republican Primary for the election will take place August 2nd. Recent polling has Wasson leading in the race ahead of State Senator’s Mike Moon and Eric Burlison.

Fatal Motorcycle Crash Near Springfield Lake Dam

A 22 year-old man has died after crashing his motorcycle near the Springfield Lake Dam.

Trenton Williamson of Springfield was driving Northbound on Kissick Avenue on his Yamaha motorcycle when he lost control, ran off the roadway, and landed in a ravine.

Williamson was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. His next of kin has been notified.

According to a release from Springfield Police Department, this is the 9th fatality motor vehicle crash of 2022.

Galloway Village Vote Proposed for November Ballot

Springfield City Council has filed an emergency bill to vote on a special election date for a controversial development in Galloway Village. The measure would go on the November 8th ballot.

A federal appeals court has ruled unanimously that voters should decide the fate of the development. The plans called for an expansion with a multi-space building with retail and an apartment complex.

A special election was scheduled last year, but a suit was filed, and the judge sided with the developer, blocking the election.

Springfield City Council to Vote on Plan to Fight Homelessness

Monday at 6:30 p.m., Springfield City Council is slated to vote on a 6 step plan to fight homelessness using a grant from the HOME Allocation Rescue Plan.

A special council was formed of community partners to discuss how to best use the funds. A 6 step plan was formed that outlined how to help someone go from homelessness to home ownership.

If the plan is approved by city council, it’s next stop is the Department of Housing and Urban Development. HUD would then be responsible for distributing the funds from there to be used by non-profits and charities in accordance with the guidelines. The funds, according to the plan, must be used by 2026.

Storms Lead to Power Outages in the Northern Ozarks Early Sunday

Storms that moved through areas north of I-44 early Sunday morning had strong to severe wind gusts that brought down trees and some power lines in the Ozarks.

Laclede Electric Cooperative and Southwest Electric Cooperative reported outages Sunday morning, with more than 1,000 customers in Hickory County losing power.

Between 400 and 600 outages were reported in Dallas and Laclede Counties, with around 100 outages in Polk County.

The City of Lebanon reports at least 1,600 homes and businesses lost electricity, with a pole broken and other poles damaged.

Liberty Utilities also had some outages in the Urbana area.

Zimmer Radiothon raises $95,545 for Central Missouri Honor Flight

The president of the Central Missouri Honor Flight is thanking mid-Missourians for their generosity in Friday’s Diamond Pet Foods Honor Flight radiothon.

It aired today from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on five mid-Missouri Zimmer radio stations, including 939 the Eagle.

Zimmer Radio officials presented a check for more than $95,000 to Central Missouri Honor Flight president Mary Paulsell, who broke down in tears on-air during the live check presentation.

Ms. Paulsell thanks everyone who donated, noting some children donated a quarter and that many listeners donated $1.

She says it all adds up, and that every dollar raised will benefit the Central Missouri Honor Flights to Washington.

Governor Parson Signs Proclamation Ending All Elective Abortions in MO

In response to the Dobbs decision released out of the Supreme Court reversing Roe V Wade, Governor Parson has issued a proclamation ending all elective abortions in the State of Missouri.

“Nothing in the text, history, or tradition of the United States Constitution gave un-elected federal judges authority to regulate abortion. We are happy that the U.S. Supreme Court has corrected this error and returned power to the people and the states to make these decisions,” Governor Parson said.

Governor Parson’s proclamation activates the “Right to Life of the Unborn Child Act,” which was included in House Bill 126, sponsored by State Representative Nick Schroer.

According to a release out of Governor Parson’s office, “Governor Parson’s Administration is coordinating with the Missouri Attorney General to quickly resolve any litigation against HB 126 before the Courts that is currently preventing implementation of the law.”

Missouri Reacts to SCOTUS Overturning Roe V Wade

The Supreme Court of the United States has overturned Roe V Wade, the landmark case that legalized abortion nearly 50 years ago.

The Dobbs decision was quickly met with statements released from many of Missouri’s most outspoken pro-life legislators and elected officials.

Attorney General Eric Schmitt ushered Missouri into the place of being the first state to enact it’s “trigger” law, House Bill 126, which effectively ends abortion in the State of Missouri.

Section B of HB126 states, “The enactment of section 188.017 of this act shall only become effective upon notification to the revisor of statutes by an opinion by the attorney general of Missouri…”

HB 126 also states, “Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, no abortion shall be performed or induced upon a woman, except in cases of medical emergency…”

According to a statement issued out of AG Schmitt’s office, “…abortion, except in cases of medical emergency, is now outlawed in the State of Missouri.”

Language added to the bill by State Senators Andrew Koenig and Eric Burlison ensures that mothers are protected after birth by including in the bill that citizens who donate to Pregnancy Care Centers receive a 70% tax credit for their donations.
