Dog Breeder in Contempt of Court

A dog breeder in Hickory County has been found in contempt of court again for operating without a license and violating the Animal Care Facilities Act.

Almost 100 dogs were rescued from Laurie Lund’s property last October. Lund was fined and banned from operating a commercial breeding facility or boarding kennel.

In April, Lund was found to still have dogs on her property and 19 dogs were taken from a facility in Urbana she was aiding.

Second Day of Ruud Trial

Testimony heard in a Springfield courtroom Tuesday revealed more details about the day investigators found the body of an Ozark County teenager.

Rebecca Ruud is charged in the death of her 16 year old daughter Savannah Leckie in 2017.

The jury heard testimony from Savannah’s adoptive mother and a man who handles cadaver dogs, that helped with a search after Ruud told authorities that Savannah had ran away.

SGF Police Increase Visibility At Hot Spot Intersections

Springfield Police will be focusing their attention on traffic hot spots.

The Springfield Police Department will implement a national operation model called “Data-driven Approach to Crime and Traffic Safety.”

The program’s data shows high-visibility traffic enforcement can reduce traffic crashes and crime in the area.

Springfield Police plan to increase visibility at four hot spot intersections: Sunshine and Kansas Expressway, Kansas Expressway and Kearney, Kearney and Glenstone, Glenstone and Sunshine.

Springfield PD Reports Drop in Theft, Rise in Gun Crimes

In a report Tuesday from the Springfield Police Department, theft and assault crimes are down in the area, while violent crimes and gun-related incidents have increased.

According to SPD, crimes such as vehicle theft, aggravated assault, breaking-and-entering and burglary have seen a drop compared to the same period in 2021.

However, the report also shows an increase in reports of shots fired, as each month has seen a rise in calls compared to the same month last year. January 2021 saw 18 reports of shots fired, compared to 28 during the same period this year.

Springfield PD also reported an increase in gun confiscations. SPD confiscated 150 guns during for the year in 2021. So far in 2022, they report 115 gun confiscations.

Springfield Police Chief Paul Williams says along with an increase in gun-related crimes, there has also been an increase in the amount of guns in the city.

Nixa State Representative Dr. Tricia Derges Found Guilty in Federal Court

Missouri State Representative Dr. Tricia Derges, who represents Nixa in the State House, has been found guilty by a jury in a federal indictment.

Derges was found guilty on all 23 charges she faced in the trial, which included:

  • 11 counts of Wire Fraud
  • 10 counts of Distribution by Means of the Internet without a Valid Prescription
  • 2 counts of False Statements

All 23 charges are classified as a felony.

The jury in the case handed down the verdict Tuesday afternoon, about 2 p.m.

The indictment accused Derges of receiving nearly $300,000 in COVID-19 aid in a fraudulent manner. Derges was also found guilty of using fake stem cell treatments on clients.

Court records indicate Derges profited about $200,000 giving amniotic fluid instead of the stem cells she was selling to her patients.

The jury in the case will also force Derges to pay back the near $300,000 she received in COVID-19 assistance.

No information about a sentencing date has been confirmed. Representative Derges has been barred by her party from running for re-election, but no statements have been made about possible impeachment or expulsion from the Missouri Congress.

Salvation Army Donates 1 Million to Convoy of Hope for Ukraine

The Salvation Army has donated one million dollars to the Convoy of Hope to help feed Ukrainians affected by the war.

Convoy of Hope will use the money to send more than 50 million meals to Ukraine.

Convoy of Hope spokesman Ethan Forhetz says the supplies will be sent to Convoy of Hope’s warehouse in Poland and trucked to Ukraine.

Three dead after Amtrak train collides with dump truck in Chariton County, northwest of Columbia

The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) says state troopers and numerous other agencies are responding to a train derailment near Chariton County’s Mendon, northwest of Columbia.

As Brian Hauswirth reports, State troopers say eight train cars have derailed after the Amtrak train collided with a dump truck. They say local and surrounding agencies are at the scene providing mutual aid assistance.
