Springfield Police Investigate Shots Fired Between Two Vehicles

Authorities are currently investigating a shooting that occurred in North Springfield Thursday afternoon.

Springfield Police responded to the area of Kearney and Weller around 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon. According to reports, a driver and a woman were arguing in a vehicle, when another individual pulled up in his vehicle and joined the argument.

The argument then escalated, resulting in both drivers drawing a weapon and firing shots at the other.

After multiple shots were exchanged, the man and woman fled the scene in their vehicle, while the other driver collided with a pole trying to leave.

New Congressional Map Proposed

The Missouri House Special Committee on Redistricting has come up with a new map for Congressional districts.

Missouri is the last state to approve a new map, and several lawsuits have been filed over the issue. The new map would likely maintain the current split of six Republican seats and two Democratic seats.

Representative Dan Shaul says the new map is more likely to pass in the Senate, where the current map is stuck.

GOP US Senate Debate Coming to Springfield

The Greene County GOP says the top Republican candidates for US Senate in Missouri will be debating later this month in Springfield.

The party says the event will be held May 31st at the Oasis Convention Center, and will be moderated by Springfield Attorney Ginger Gooch and former Greene County Prosecuting Attorney Darrell Moore.

Flash Flooding in the Ozarks Leads to Roads Closed and Water Rescues

Thunderstorms have brought heavy rain to the Ozarks, leading to flash flooding in a number of areas.

A number of roads in southwest Missouri are impassible. We’ve had several roads closed, and several fire departments have been busy with water rescues.

Get updates on roads closed in the Ozarks and throughout the state with the MoDOT Traveler Information Map.

Water rescues have taken place at Highway CC and Farm Road 139 north of Ebenezer, Farm Road 156 northwest of Battlefield, near South Greenfield at Farm Road 132 and 143, and Highway C at the Polk/Dallas County line.

Park managers ordered the evacuation of Campground #3 at Roaring River State Park near Cassville overnight because of high water.

We’ve had reports that Tracker Road west of Highway 160 in the Nixa area is impassible.

Some of the many road closings include Highway AA west of Halfway, Highway CC west of Fair Grove, Highway A near Diggins, and Highway V near Flemington.

A Flood Warning is in effect until 6:00 p.m. Thursday for Greene and Polk Counties. Nearly four inches of rain has fallen in the Springfield area since Wednesday morning, and flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and low water crossings will continue.

A Flood Warning is also in effect until 6:00 p.m. for Christian, Douglas, Laclede, Stone, Taney and Wright Counties.

We’ve had around 3.8 inches of rain in Springfield since Wednesday morning, and here are some other totals coming in from the National Weather Service:

Camdenton High School Principal Assaulted By Student

A Camdenton High student is under arrest after he allegedly attacked the school’s principal Tuesday.

The 16 year old juvenile faces a charge of third degree assault.

The student allegedly struck the principal in the head multiple times.

A passing student wrested the other student to the ground until another staff member could restrain him.

The student is in the Camden County Juvenile Justice Center.

Police Report “Shots Fired” Calls Up In Springfield

The Springfield Police Department says “shots fired” calls were up in March and April.

Police say that as of last week they had responded to 120 reports of gunfire.

They say in the past few years, the average of “shots fired” calls run between 20 to 30 a month.

However, Springfield Police say most of the calls involve people who know each other.

Severe Weather Damage from Wednesday Night

Severe weather hit the Ozarks Wednesday night.

In Wright County, Highway “Z” at Elk Creek had to be closed because of water over the roadway.

In Jasper County, The National Weather Service reported water over the road, as well as sign and roof damage.

In Joplin, the limb of a tree fell onto a parked car on McConnell Avenue and lawn furniture blown into the streets.

Whataburger Submits Springfield Area Building Plans

The Whataburger restaurant chain has submitted plans to build 3 locations in Springfield.

One proposed location is on West Sunshine near McCurry Avenue. A second location is planned on North Glenstone near Kearney, and the third on South Glenstone in front of the Battlefield Mall.

Locations are also planned in Ozark and Republic.

Honor Flight Police Escorts to be Reinstated

Missouri’s two US Senators say the National Park Service will reinstate police escorts for Honor Flights to Washington.

The Department of Interior has reversed an earlier decision, one that GOP Senators Roy Blunt and Josh Hawley criticized. Senator Blunt is pleased the Interior Department has reversed course, saying the police escorts ensure that Honor Flight travelers can get to their destinations safely and quickly. Senator Hawley agrees it’s the right decision.

Honor Flight of the Ozarks is set for its first flight since 2019 on Tuesday, May 10th.

Excessive Rain Could Lead to Significant Flash Flooding in the Ozarks, with Severe Weather Potential Through Thursday

A storm system approaches the Ozarks Wednesday, bringing the threat of heavy rain, flash flooding, and strong to severe thunderstorms.

The National Weather Service says a Flood Watch is in effect through Thursday afternoon for most of southwest Missouri.

Widespread rain amounts of one to three inches are expected in the Ozarks, with local pockets of four inches possible.

Forecasters say significant flash flooding is possible in areas that experience training, or repeated thunderstorms.

Numerous state highways and county routes are likely to become flooded and impassable, with river flooding also likely.

There will also be the potential for severe weather over the next two days, with a couple of marginally severe thunderstorms possible Wednesday and Wednesday night.

The severe weather potential is even greater Thursday, with large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes possible, especially along and south of I-44.
