Wind Causes Two Outages for C-U Customers

High winds caused two major power outages for City Utilities customers Thursday.

The first outage happened around 12:30 and took out power in Downtown Springfield including the phone system at Springfield Police headquarters.

It took crews an hour to repair. A second power outage occurred just after 2:30 pm, when high winds broke a pole near Republic Road and Lark Street in South Springfield.

City Utilities closed the street to traffic for safety reasons.

Power was restored to that area just before 4 pm.
