Public Funerals Announced For Two Joplin Police Officers Shot and Killed in the Line of Duty

The Joplin Police Department has released details of funerals planned this week for two officers who died after being shot while trying to arrest a man during a disturbance outside of a local shopping center last Tuesday.

Public visitation for Corporal Ben Cooper will be held from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Leggett and Platt Center on the Missouri Southern State University campus.

A public funeral for Corporal Cooper takes place Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 at the same location.

Public visitation for Officer Jake Reed will be held Thursday, March 17th, from 4-8 p.m. at the Leggett and Platt Center, with a public funeral at the center Friday at 1:00 p.m.

If members of the public would like to show support for the Cooper family or to law enforcement, they’re asked to line up along Main Street in Joplin between 3rd and 19th Street.

A procession will travel that route between 3 and 4 p.m. Tuesday.
