Man Charged in Connection with Shooting in Springfield

A man with an extensive criminal history in another state has been charged after a shooting incident that occurred earlier this month.

The shooting took place on March 8, when 37-year-old Walter Weatherspoon shot at a man on South Westwood Avenue.

According to reports, Weatherspoon and the victim in the case got into an altercation, at which point both people pulled out a gun. The victim’s sister tried to step in front of them to stop it, at which point Weatherspoon fired a shot.

No details have been released as to whether or not the victim or his sister were shot. Weatherspoon has been charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action in the case.

Weatherspoon has already been convicted of numerous charges in Wisconsin.
