Three Police Officers Shot In Joplin, One Killed

UPDATE 6:15 p.m.: CNN is reporting the Jasper County coroner has confirmed one of the three officers shot in Joplin has died.

UPDATE: Police say the suspect has died from his injuries. The condition of the officers has not yet been made available.

Original Story: Three police officers and a suspect have been rushed to local hospitals for treatment after a shooting Tuesday afternoon in Joplin.

The Joplin Globe says Detective Brian Lewis of the Joplin Police Department reports the incident started just after 1:20 p.m. at The Buckle, which is a retail store near Seventh and Range Line.

The suspect fired shots at police and fled to the area of Ninth and Connecticut.

The suspect again exchanged gunfire with police at that location.

Lewis told the newspaper three police officers and the suspect were shot, adding officers are working three different scenes.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is taking over the investigation.

A prayer vigil for the Joplin officers has been scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cunningham Park.
