Victim Identified in Deadly Hit-And-Run near Highlandville

The Highway Patrol is urging anyone with information on a deadly hit-and-run near Highlandville to come forward.

Troopers say a woman walking at Myron White Avenue and Henry Lane Tuesday afternoon was hit by a vehicle.

Debora Dove, 67, died at a local hospital.

Patrol Sergeant Mike McClure says whether it was a distracted driver, someone who did it intentionally, or someone under the influence of drugs and alcohol, they should do the right thing and come forward.

MO Department of Corrections Office Evacuated

The Missouri Department of Corrections office in Jefferson City had to be evacuated Monday, when an envelope of white powder was found by an employee.

The staff was evacuated and responders in hazmat suits decontaminated the office.

It was determined the powder was the painkiller acetaminophen and the employees went back to work.

An investigation continues.

Drury To Open Satellite Campus

Drury University is expanding.

The university announced Tuesday that it will open a satellite campus in Harrisonville, south of Kansas City on Interstate 49.

Drury’s evening and online program will launch in Harrisonville on March 15th.

Former Nixa Police Officer Charged with Statutory Rape, Sodomy

Former Nixa police officer Cody Scott has been charged with five counts of second-degree statutory rape, and one count of second-degree sodomy in accordance with crimes committed between September and December of last year.

The 24-year-old Scott had been on the Nixa police force since 2019, when he was hired just after graduating from the academy.

Following allegations against him, the Nixa Police Department requesting an investigation into his actions by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

That request was filed on February 1.

Copper Wire Theft Causes Street Lights Outage along West Bypass in Springfield

Springfield City Utilities officials say copper wire theft continues to be a problem.

Street lights are out on West Bypass between Division and Kearney because of copper wire being stolen.

C-U Spokesman Joel Alexander says thieves are taking the underground cable between street lights.

Alexander says people are also taking overhead cable between utility poles.

Crash Causes Big Slowdowns For Morning Commute at I-44 and Highway 65 in Springfield

A crash involving multiple vehicles shut down the ramp to go from westbound I-44 to northbound Highway 65 in Springfield for more than an hour and a half during the morning commute Tuesday.

The crash happened at the 82.6 mile marker and had slow-moving westbound traffic down to one lane.

Emergency vehicles cleared the scene and the interstate was re-opened shortly after 9 a.m.

New Hy-Vee Store Set to Open in Springfield in Two Weeks

The wait for Springfield’s second Hy-Vee store to open won’t be much longer.

The company says the store at 2150 east Sunshine is scheduled to open Tuesday, February 22 at 6 a.m.

The new 93,000 square foot store will have several new departments, including a shoe store.

Hy-vee will employ around 600 workers at the east Sunshine location.

Springfield City Utilities is warning customers of a scam to get their personal information.

Customers receive a text message saying a payment did not go through.

C-U reminds customers they do not text customers and a question about their account should be directed to a customer representative by calling C-U.

Branson Mayor Statement on Branson Fire Marshal Brunner’s Injuries

Branson Mayor, Larry Milton, would like to express his well wishes and a speedy recovery after Branson Fire Rescue Fire Marshal Dennis Brunner was hit by a car and seriously injured while changing a tire near Springfield.

According to a report by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Fire Marshal Brunner was changing a flat tire on his personal vehicle on February 5, 2022, around 7:45 p.m. on I-44 just east of Springfield when a passing motorist struck him.

While Fire Marshal Brunner’s injuries are serious, he is expected to recover.
“Dennis’ impact on our community, not only the work he does, but what he contributes personally, is evident by the amount calls we have received from concerned citizens and community members.

He is in our hearts and prayers and we wish him a speedy recovery,” said Branson Mayor Larry Milton.

Branson Fire Rescue wants to remind drivers to slow down and move over, not only for emergency vehicles, but for all vehicles as well. If drivers have to pull off on the side of the road for any reason, pull over as far as possible, turn on
hazard lights and keep a flashlight available for emergencies
