Sunshine Street Resurfacing Project Pushed Back Until November 7th

The start date for the resurfacing of Sunshine Street between Kansas Expressway and Glenstone Avenue in Springfield has been pushed back due to weather conditions.

The city of Springfield says work is now expected to begin at 6 p.m .Sunday, November 7th with work beginning near Kansas Expressway and proceeding eastward.

The city’s contractor, Blevins Asphalt Construction Company, expects to finish the project through a 24-hour operation.

In a news release, the city says crews will work day and nighttime shifts, generally completing milling work on a segment overnight, then laying new asphalt over that section during the day.

The project is still scheduled to be completed in December (weather permitting).

You can expect at least one lane in each direction of Sunshine to be open at all times, but traffic delays can be expected.

The resurfacing is part of a major roadway project approved by voters in 2019 that also includes portions of Battlefield Road (between Kansas Expressway and Glenstone) and National Avenue (between Kearney and Sunset Streets).

It’s funding through block grant funds and a 1/4 cent capital improvement sales tax.
