Water Main Break in Downtown Springfield

A water main break on Jefferson between McDaniel and St. Louis in downtown Springfield Wednesday has flooded roads and forced lane closures in the area.

Springfield City Utilities says the break should not impact customers in the area.

Crews are having to excavate to find the break, then fix it and likely have to replace the pipe.

A C-U spokesman says the 12 inch water main break happened because of older cast iron material. The pipe needing to be replaced could be up to 100 years old.
