Man Pulls Gun on Marshfield Police

The Marshfield Walmart was on lock-down Wednesday afternoon after a man pulled a gun on police officers in the store’s parking lot.

Marshfield Police say the man had six loaded guns in his pickup truck.

He backed up against the truck as officers approached and reached for a gun case.

He was arrested.

Police say the man told them that he had been using meth.

Board of Education to Limit Comments

Springfield’s Board of Education will make changes to the way it takes comments at future meetings.

From now on only ten speakers will be allowed to speak,they will need to sign up ahead of time and limit their comments to three minutes.

These changes were brought on by several recent long meetings with hostile speakers that took time away from important school business.

The Springfield-Greene County Health Department and local hospital officials will update the community at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday on the latest with COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and vaccines.

The meeting takes place at the Springfield Greene County Public Safety Center on west Scott.

Numbers on the health department’s COVID-19 dashboard show a downward trend in the number of daily new cases and the seven day average.

On July 20th, the seven day average peaked at 236 new cases of the virus. By August 1st, the number was at 167 cases, and as of this Monday, the seven day average was down to 110 cases.

Hospitalizations in Greene County hit a record high of 271 on July 23rd. That number was down to 212 patients as of Tuesday.

Body Found In Cove at Lake of the Ozarks

The body of a man missing since Sunday was found floating in the Lake of the Ozarks.

The Highway Patrol says 55 year old James Jensen of Kansas City was found floating in a cove at the 9.5 mile marker of the main channel of the lake.

Springfield Man Charged In Converter Theft

The Greene County prosecutor has filled charges against a man accused of stealing a catalytic converter.

Springfield Police were called to a report of a man trying to cut a catalytic converter from a pickup truck on North Fremont Avenue on Sunday.

They found 41 year old Jason Cottrell of Springfield in possession of a catalytic converter and a battery-powered saw.

Cottrell’s bond is set a $5,000 and he could face seven years in prison if convicted.

Health Officials Worry About COVID-19 In School Kids

Health officials in the Ozarks are concerned about a possible spike in COVID-19 among children when they go back to school this fall.

Currently there are four children, under age 10, being treated at the two hospitals in Springfield.

President and CEO of Cox Health Steve Edwards says he is concerned that many school districts are not requiring masking this year.

He says masking is the best protection for kids, under twelve, until the vaccine is approved for them.

COVID-19 Vaccine Boosters Likely Coming By This Fall

Federal health officials are expected to recommend COVID-19 vaccine boosters for all Americans, regardless of age, eight months after they received the second dose of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine.

Experts have been actively looking at whether extra shots for the vaccinated would be needed as early as this fall.

Doses would only begin to be administered widely once the FDA formally approves the vaccines.

That action is expected for the Pfizer shot in the coming weeks.

Last week, health officials recommended boosters for some people with weakened immune systems.

Search For Missing Soldier at Fort Leonard Wood

The search is on for a missing soldier at Fort Leonard Wood.

Specialist Joshua J. Morrison disappeared near Ruby’s Landing after kayaking on the Gasconade River in Waynesville.

Fort Leonard Wood first responders are working closely with the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command and the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Waynesville Fire Department, doing search and rescue operations along the river.

Anyone with information on Morrison’s whereabouts is asked to call 573-596-6141.

Man Charged In Gas Station Shooting

An arrest has been made in the fatal shooting at a gas station Friday.

22 year old Garrett Eagle of Springfield is charged with second degree murder in the death of 49 year old Jason Masters.

Surveillance video placed Eagle at the Conoco Village Mart on Kearney at the time of the shooting.

He told Springfield Police he didn’t shoot the victim, but refused to name the shooter.

Eagle said Masters owed him money.

Eagle also faces a first-degree robbery charge.

Small Plane Goes Down at Bolivar Airport

The FAA has been contacted after an ultralight plane crashed Monday morning at the Bolivar airport.

No information has been released on the condition of the pilot, who was airlifted to a hospital in Springfield.
