No Voting On Gas Tax

A campaign to put Missouri’s new gas tax increase to a public vote has been tabled.

Americans for Prosperity of Missouri dropped plans to get the issue on the ballot.

They had hoped voters would overturn the tax increase, but the group’s executive director says the campaign just didn’t come together.

M-S-U & Mercy Partnering For Nursing Program

Missouri State University and Mercy are partnering for a new nursing program starting this fall.

The program will be called “Earn as You Learn.”

It will allow students the chance to earn money while completing clinical time.

Thirty-seven M-S-U students will participate in the program this fall.

Mercy plans to open the program to more nursing schools if it is successful.

Staffing Shortage Leads Springfield Police to Change Lobby Hours at Headquarters

The Springfield Police Department has changed hours at its headquarters on Chestnut Expressway because of a severe staffing shortage.

The department explains the changes in the following news release:

At the Springfield Police Department, we continue to experience severe staffing shortages, not only within the ranks of our sworn officers but also among our professional support staff.  

Due to this issue, beginning Sunday,  Aug. 1, 2021. Springfield Police Department Headquarters (321 E. Chestnut Expressway) will operate on a modified schedule. Public access will be allowed Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The front lobby is closed to the public on Sundays. 

The non-emergency phone lines will remain open seven days a week between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. and can be reached by calling (417) 864-1810. 

The Springfield Police Department South District Station (2620 W. Battlefield Rd) remains closed to the public.

CoxHealth Continues To Set Daily Records for COVID-19 Hospitalizations

CoxHeath is continuing to report new daily records in hospitalizations due to COVID-19.

CEO Steve Edwards says 187 patients were being treated at CoxHealth facilities as of Sunday.

About eight weeks ago, that number stood at 28 patients.

Edwards says the rolling seven day average of new COVID-19 cases is stabilizing some, and while he’s preparing for the possibility of having well over 200 patients, projections call for leveling off about where we are.

Fatal Golf Cart Crash at Lampe

A woman is dead after crash involving a golf cart at Black Oak Resort at Lampe.

The Highway Patrol says 57 year old Lisa Isley of Fairfax was thrown from a golf cart after it struck a tree and overturned.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the cart was tested for alcohol according to state law.

SGF Police Department Hours Change

The Springfield Police Department has changed its hours due to a severe staffing shortage.

The department headquarters will be open to the public Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The front lobby is closed to the public on Sundays.

Boat Explosion at Lake of the Ozarks

Three people are hospitalized after an explosion on a boat at Lake of the Ozarks.

The Highway Patrol says the explosion happened, Saturday afternoon, on the main channel at the 10.3-mile marker.

The boat experienced a mechanical failure in the engine compartment which caused the explosion.

Mountain Grove Man Charged

Texas County deputies arrested an alleged child molester.

The Department of Social Services received a child abuse/neglect hotline report that a juvenile had been molested near Mountain Grove.

64-year-old Mark Forbeck of Mountain Grove was arrested and charged with child molestation 2nd degree aggravated offense and additional charges.

He admitted to deputies he had sexual contact with the victim. Forbeck is in the Texas County Jail pending a $500,000 bond.
