Governor Parson Says State Will Likely Fulfill Springfield’s Request for COVID-19 Alternative Care Site

Missouri Governor Mike Parson says the state will likely fund a COVID-19 Alternative Care Site in the Springfield area.

The Alternative Care Site (ACS), as requested by the Springfield-Greene County Health Department and Springfield-Greene County Emergency Management, would provide staffing for transitional care for COVID-19 patients in area hospitals, increase the capacity for antibody treatment, create a centralized location for patients awaiting long-term care placement, and offer shelter for unsheltered people who are COVID-19 positive.

Parson suggested federal stimulus dollars could also help pay for the site. He says the state is in the process of seeing what it can deliver and what it can’t, but things Missouri will be able to deliver the funding.

As of Monday morning, the health department reports 251 patients are being treated for the virus in Greene County hospitals.
