The Springfield Police Department has identified the woman killed in a bizarre accident on Tuesday morning.
A 72-year-old man driving a Ford Escape southbound on Fremont had a medical emergency as he approached the intersection of Fremont and Woodland. The car left the roadway and struck 83-year-old Phyllis Tinsley of Springfield before driving into the backyard of a home.
Tinsley died at the scene as a result of her injuries according to the SPD’s updated report. The driver of the vehicle was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police do not believe impairment to be a factor in the incident. This is the second fatal motor vehicle crash in 2021 for the SPD.
